Main Uses

Organic Synthesis Field:

As an important intermediate, it is used to synthesize heterocyclic compounds (such as thiazoles, triazoles, etc.), pharmaceuticals, dyes, etc. For example, derivatives produced through reactions with ketones can be used to prepare antibacterial drugs or pesticides.

As a reagent for the identification of carbonyl compounds: Utilizing its specific condensation reaction with aldehydes and ketones to generate crystals with fixed melting points, allowing for the identification of aldehyde and ketone types via melting point determination.

Pharmaceutical Field:

Some derivatives possess biological activities such as antibacterial and antiviral properties and can serve as precursors in drug development. However, thiosemicarbazide itself possesses certain toxicity and requires structural modification before use.

Analytical Chemistry Field:

Used for the spectrophotometric determination of certain metal ions (such as copper, nickel, palladium, etc.). By forming stable complexes with metal ions, quantitative analysis is performed utilizing their chromogenic reactions.

Other Uses:

Used to prepare imaging agents, rubber vulcanization accelerators, etc.;
